Subclass 300 Prospective Marriage Visa
If you are in a relationship with an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen and are either engaged, or are considering getting married, this visa may be the solution for you.
This visa allows the fiancé/ fiancée of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to enter into Australia to be with their fiancé/ fiancée for a period of nine months.
The basis for this visa is that you and your fiancé/ fiancée genuinely intend to marry within that nine month period. When you are married, you can then apply for the subclass 820/801 Partner visa in Australia. The Department of Home Affairs fees for that application are reduced significantly.
Who can apply?
To be eligible to apply for a Prospective Marriage Visa, you:
- Must be 18 or over
- Must be sponsored by an eligible sponsor who is either an Australian Citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen
- Must be able to demonstrate that you and your fiancé/ fiancée genuinely intend to live in a married relationship within nine months of the date of the grant of the visa
- You and any dependent family members must meet Australia’s health and character requirements
